India face a daunting task in their next World Cup 2023 match as they take on New Zealand on Sunday. India have never defeated the Kiwis at the ODI World Cup since 2003, and ahead of the game, the Men in Blue received a blow when Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the contest with an ankle injury.

Despite their flawless World Cup record so far, India captain Rohit Sharma found himself dealing with unexpected questions from opening batter Shubman Gill after India’s seven-wicket victory against Bangladesh.
Gill had asked skipper Rohit about India’s unimpressive record against the Kiwis. Rohit seemed absolutely clueless while facing Gill’s barrage of questions. A footage of the fun-filled question-answer session was shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

In the video, Shubman Gill was heard asking, “Someone asked me in the press conference that we haven’t beaten New Zealand in an ICC tournament since 2003.”
Responding to this, Rohit Sharma said, “That’s true. But we are playing good cricket and that’s all we can do from our end.”
Gill even asked Rohit if India will be able to end the streak on Sunday. “See we don’t play the kind of cricket where we guarantee anything. When we reach the ground, we’ll have to do what we are doing as a team. We can’t think too far ahead. Yes, we’ve not had the result in the past but… (before being interrupted by Gill),” Rohit replied.
India have so far beaten Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh in their four World Cup matches so far.
New Zealand have been a formidable opponent for India, not only in World Cups but also in ICC events in recent years. The last time India overcame the Kiwis at an ICC event was before MS Dhoni’s international debut.
India had to endure a painful defeat to the Black Caps in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. It was also the last international match for former India skipper Dhoni.
