The ICC World Cup is almost upon us and the demand for tickets, particularly for matches featuring the Indian cricket team, has surged in the final countdown. Team India will be travelling all across the country and will feature in as many as nine different venues nationwide. They will start their campaign against five-time champion Australia in Chennai on 8 October and will end their group stage match against the Netherlands in Bengaluru.
India seem to have almost all bases covered and are widely seen as one of the hot favourites to clinch the title. The mounting expectations even led to a hilarious twist, with former India captain Virat Kohli sharing a playful message on his Instagram Stories. The star India batter suggested that his friends should “enjoy the matches from home” and not haggle with the players to get tickets.
“As we approach the World Cup, I would humbly like to let all my friends know to not request me for tickets at all through the tournament. Enjoy from your homes please,” he wrote in his Instagram story.
England and New Zealand will kickstart the 10-team tournament. India enter the tournament riding a wave of momentum, having emerged victorious in both the Asia Cup and the bilateral series against Australia. Their recent successes have solidified their status as strong favourites, a position further strengthened since other teams are struggling with a whole host of injuries.
“I had to work on a lot of things. To be a leader, you need to understand your teammates, their strength and weaknesses and give them the freedom to go out and play. Our job is to make sure we lay that platform for them and then it’s their job to go and do what they do best,” India skipper Rohit Sharma said at the captain’s conference ahead of the World Cup.
