Against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday, Bumrah finished with figures of 2/19, helping India dismiss the visitors for 191.
In 2021, Bumrah had visited Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium and had even got a personalized jersey with his name and number “93” on it.
Bumrah opened up on the celebration, saying he had not intention of “making it viral”.
“I had no intentions of making it viral or spreading it everywhere,” Bumrah told ICC Digital Insider.
“It just came to my mind. I’d seen Rashford do it as well,” he added.
He said that there was no particular reason behind the celebration.
“I thought it was cool. There’s no particular big back story behind it. At the end I decided to do it,” continued the 29-year-old.
“Usually I’m too tired to celebrate. But that is one occasion where I did celebrate,” explained Bumrah.
India are currently on top of the points table with six points. The Men in Blue next face Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday.
Bumrah said momentum was not in the mind of the players, but recovering ahead of the next game.
“We’re not thinking about the momentum. The team is right now thinking about recovery.
“We’ve played three games back-to-back and the result has been on the good side because our preparation has been good.
“The team vibe is also good. People are pretty relaxed. They’re looking to execute, they’re looking to have fun with each other. It’s a good place to be now,” said the Ahmedabad-born cricketer.
