England cricket team’s official supporters’ group — Barmy Army — did not waste much time in making fun of Virat Kohli after the former India skipper was dismissed for a duck yesterday at the World Cup 2023. This was Kohli’s first-ever duck in the ODI World Cup’s history. The Barmy Army came up with a morphed image of a duck with Kohli’s face on it, along with a comical caption on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The post, however, did not go down well with Indian fans who issued befitting responses. Bharat Army, the official fan group of Team India, replied in a hilarious fashion after England’s Joe Root was dismissed for a first-ball duck. There was more jubilation for the Bharat Army who shared another chucklesome post after England Test skipper Ben Stokes returned to the dressing room without scoring a single run.

Indian fans did have the last laugh in social media war and the scene was no different in terms of the on-field developments either. Rohit Sharma’s men carried forward their incredible winning streak at the World Cup 2023 having got the better of defending champions England by 100 runs in Lucknow on Sunday.

Batting first, hosts India could manage to post 229 runs on board. Skipper Rohit Sharma emerged as his side’s highest scorer having produced a fine knock of 87. Later, Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a handy innings of 49 off 47 balls to guide India to a respectable total. David Willey was England’s best performer with the ball having scalped three wickets yesterday.

Defending a small total, Indian bowlers displayed a terrific performance to bowl out England for a paltry total of 129. Indian pacers ran through the English line-up to earn an emphatic 100-run win on Sunday. Mohammed Shami was the star figure in India’s bowling unit with four dismissals to his name. Shami ended up with sensational figures of 4/22 in his seven overs against England.
The resounding victory helped India to extend their winning run to six matches at World Cup 2023. They are currently atop the points table. England, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the World Cup standings with two points from six games.
