Rege-Jean Page to headline Noah Hawley heist film for Netflix, AGBO

Bridgerton breakout Rege-Jean Page is set to headline a Netflix heist thriller film from Fargo creator Noah Hawley.

The movie, which Hawley will write and direct, will be produced by the streaming service in collaboration with filmmaker duo Anthony and Joe Russo's banner AGBO.

Plot details are being kept locked in the safe, but comes from an original idea from Hawley, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hawley will also produce through his 26 Keys banner alongside The Russo Brothers and Mike Larocca.

"AGBO was originally founded to allow us to collaborate with artists we greatly respect and admire. We are very happy to continue to fulfill that pledge by supporting this new film from Noah Hawley and Rege-Jean Page," Larocca said in a statement.

Page found global fame after featuring as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings in Netflix series Bridgerton.

After leaving the show post the first season, the actor joined the cast of another AGBO project The Gray Man, which also includes Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas.

Page will also star in Paramount Pictures' Dungeons & Dragons, alongside the likes of Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith.

Hawley, known for creating popular series Fargo and Legion, made his feature directorial debut with Natalie Portman-starrer Lucy in the Sky.

He is currently working on a TV series for FX based on the Alien franchise.

Day 1 report: India were comfortably placed at 132 for one when rain brought an early end to the opening day's play in the pink-ball Test against Australia here on Thursday.
Smriti Mandhana was batting on a sublime 80 and Punam Raut was unbeaten on 16 when stumps were called on the first day.

India were 101 for 1 at the dinner break on the opening day of their one-off Day/Night Test, after which lightning delayed the start of play for a while.

The Australian team's decision to field first after laying a green strip for the visitors did seem to have backfired as Mandhana attacked them straightaway during the first hour of play.

There were an astounding 16 boundaries hit in the first 16 overs, mostly by Mandhana and few by Shafali as Meg Lanning did shuffle around with his bowlers without much success.

In fact, it was a case of role reversal which perhaps caught the Australians off-guard as Shafali was more intent on playing a defensive game while her senior partner attacked with great gusto.

Debutant Darcie Brown got some special punishment as Mandhana hit her for a number of boundaries both on the off-side as well as a few whip shots on the leg-side.

Ellyse Perry also took a few overs to find the right length. The elegant Indian left-hander reached her run-a-ball fifty in no time with a cover drive of McGrath.

Whenever Mandhana bisected between point and cover or cover or mid-off, it was the most pleasant sight.

Her first 51 runs came off 50 deliveries and the next 29 off 94 while Raut also played her customary defensive game. A total of 300 plus will certainly keep India firmly in the game.

Shiddat movie review: Superficial, careless writing weakens the romance

Language: Hindi

Most writers are fond of their own words. When we’re young, our words arrange themselves on the page in a style that feels attention-seeking years afterwards. As we grow older, we nevertheless refer to these past words through allusions, callbacks, hyperlinks. It’s self-congratulatory, whichever way you slice it. I know this, as I suspect most writers do.

But even by these standards, it was a bit much to see the writerly weight given to a brief monologue at the beginning of Kunal Deshmukh’s film Shiddat (now available on Disney+Hotstar). It’s a short speech delivered by young diplomat Gautam (Mohit Raina) during his engagement party, about how he met his fiancé Ira (Diana Penty). If I hadn’t met you in London, he says, it’d have been Paris or Amsterdam. They’d always end up meeting because “Tum meri kismet ho” (You’re my destiny) Gautam says. For some reason these lines affect party-crashing free spirit Jaggi (Sunny Kaushal) in such a profound way that he swears he will find a love “worthy” of the sentiment. “Dil ko touch kar gayi baat” he says on two different occasions, slapping his chest.

Through the course of the film, as Gautam and Jaggi’s fates remain improbably intertwined, Jaggi reminds Gautam of this same speech over and over again, as though this it were something out of a medieval poetry collection (when it’s in fact written in a treacly, Paulo-Coelho-meets-K-Pop register).

It’s curious to see the importance Shiddat assigns to this, perhaps the weakest part of an uneven screenplay. The film is about two love stories: the ‘major’ key is a DDLJ-esque (predictably, the connection is spelt out in a dialogue) romance between two national-level athletes: hockey player Jaggi (Sunny Kaushal) and swimmer Kartika (Radhika Madan). The ‘minor’ key is the broken marriage of Gautam and Ira, who now live in Paris.

Mohit Raina, Diana Penty in a still from Shiddat | Twitter

The problem with both storylines is the same, really: superficial, careless writing. The Jaggi-Kartika romance is supposed to be a variation on the opposites-attract theme. He is the loud, happy-go-lucky, inappropriate — but somehow charming —heart-of-gold. She is the pragmatic, intense, competitive and level-headed half of the romance. Here’s the thing, though: while Jaggi is believably annoying to most of the characters on display (more than once, he is called “ch**ia”), it’s not clear why people end up liking him. There’s exactly one generic, feel-good pep talk he gives Kartika about “loving the game”, which lasts half a minute. But outside of that, I really did not get why Kartika falls for Jaggi or indeed, why Jaggi attracts the kind of undying loyalty he does from friends and strangers alike. He’s a manic pixie dream boy, only the charm is largely sub-textual, it seems. It’s base protagonism: the hero’s the hero because he’s the hero.

The Gautam-Ira romance presents an even more challenging prospect for the viewer in terms of improbability. Ira’s either an ‘activist’ or a ‘social worker’ depending upon the writers’ mood; either way she works with undocumented immigrants. At a High Commissioner’s Office dinner, she argues with one of Gautam’s diplomatic colleagues, something he gets really angry over, leading to a tantrum-y hissy fit. As to what Ira actually said to prompt such fury, we are in the dark because it happens off-screen — convenient, because presenting the conversation would have meant the writers of Shiddat actually saying something coherent on immigration.

Later, on their way back home, Ira feeds an undocumented immigrant boy; in an awards-worthy dick move, Gautam sneakily gets the boy to reveal where he and his also-undocumented migrant friends sleep at night. He gets them deported and she leaves him in a panicked epiphany: they’re “very different people”. For him, these people are “illegals” as he says. For her, they’re people she helps every day.

Sunny Kaushal, Radhika Madan in a still from Shiddat

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s genuinely sweet, not to mention important, that Shiddat places undocumented immigration as an important plot point—and makes it clear that the migrants are the good guys being wronged (read beaten, caged, killed) by draconian policing and vengeful governments (personified by Gautam). If you’ve been keeping up with recent headlines, you’ll know this is an important message and I applaud Deshmukh and the writers for it. It’s just that the whole thing is so very silly at the screenplay level.

Get this: the ‘ice-thawing’ moment for Gautam happens when he spies on his now-estranged wife feeding the homeless off a street corner. He pays one of these homeless people and eats said food, and it…somehow convinces him that he needs to get back together with her? The whole “food-served-by-the-wife” overtones of the scene are weird enough, but what’s even more troubling is the way that poor people are used as a step-ladder for the hero’s self-congratulation. A similar moment happened in Baahubali, when the boy-prince Mahendra eats “servant’s food” with his adoptive uncle Kattappa, the designated servant-of-the-throne. In both these scenes, we’re supposed to applaud the hero’s largesse and his epiphany because he (cue horror-gasps) eats with poor people.

Director Kunal Deshmukh has borrowed from the headlines before: like the Bombay floods with Tum Mile, or the 2000 cricket match-fixing scandal with Jannat. To an extent, the superficial writing problem exists in those films, too, but it isn’t as stark as it is with Shiddat, which has its heart in the right place but not nearly enough narrative depth to justify its 140-minute runtime.

Highlights, IPL 2021, SRH vs CSK Full Cricket Score: Chennai beat Hyderabad by 6 wickets

23:28 (IST)

That's all for today. Hope you have enjoyed the match and our coverage. We'll see you tomorrow for yet another day of IPL action.

23:26 (IST)

Josh Hazlewood is the player of the match

"I put in a lot of hardwork and learnt a lot every game. It's hard to learn since there's a different team every game, but it's satisfying. Getting Roy was a big wicket, and it was good to put the pressure back on them early. The wicket offered a little bit, it was on the slower side and a little low as well. We are happy we are applying whatever we are doing in the practice. It's good to learn from DJ Bravo over the last few weeks too, and it's been a great learning curve for me."

23:24 (IST)

MS Dhoni: Of course means a lot(qualifying for play-offs). In the last post match presentation, I had said, we want to come strong. It was emotional. A lot of things didn't go our way. What's important is you don't give excuses and that's what we have done. The boys have taken responsibility when it comes to batting, bowling and fitness. The players and support staff deserve the credit. The bounce of wicket was very different, something that should come to knee height was coming to shin height. So the batsmen adjusted to hitting it straight. The bowlers did well with their variations. As a bowling unit, they bowled the right length. I can proudly say on behalf of CSK that we are really proud of the fans.

23:16 (IST)

Du Plessis: (On his dismissal) Bad execution and not enough dry gloves, I am going to bring more gloves next game. I did work before the tournament to make sure I could run and I love doing it, don't want to miss the catches, love doing the donkey work of running from long-on to long-off. The balance of our team has been very good this year. We've been batting aggressively and we bat long so there are batters coming out even if we lose wickets. With the ball Moeen has been a good addition as well. We've got Jadeja who bowls in the middle. But it's the balance of the side that has been crucial.

23:08 (IST)

Kane Williamson: "Not enough runs. We were still competitive. It was fantastic, and it is important we keep bringing that. The cameos from boys in the lower-middle order gave us something so we need to look at how to win games. It is hard when you end up on the losing side. Chennai played really well. It looked challenging and variable, and in the end if you can inch out another 10-15 runs."

23:07 (IST)

And with this win, CSK have officially qualified for the playoffs. SRH are completely out of the top four race.

CSK restrict SRH to 134/7! A decent last over from Chahar, concedes just a single boundary. The slower one was picked up early by Rashid and lapped over short fine leg. There is a slower bouncer and a yorker as well. The yorker is off the last ball, Rashid stays in his crease and looks to flick but gets an outside edge to short third man for a single. Chahar surprisingly opts for a review but replays show it came off the bat. There are just four singles and a dot off the rest five. 8 runs off the final over.

21:06 (IST)

FOUR! That's what he's been trying to do for a long time. Slower on middle and leg, Rashid gets down and ramps it over short fine leg.

Live Score SRH vs CSK, IPL 2021, Today's Match: Siddarth Kaul starts off with a good bouncer, it's one for the over. Rayudu then takes a single. Dhoni is on strike, two needed from four balls. Dhoni doesn't get the timing right on his shot and it is straight to the fielder at short mid-wicket. Still two runs needed from three balls. Sid Kaul comes round the wicket and Dhoni finishes it off in style. A huge six over deep mid-wicket.

Preview: Sunrisers Hyderabad are at the bottom of the IPL 2021 league table with just two wins from 10 matches. But their last win also came in their last match as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets.

The defeat caused a serious dent to RR's hopes of qualifying for the playoffs and while SRH are virtually out of the Play-off race their return to form means their opponents need to be wary of the damage Kane Williamson's side can do to their chances.

They face Chennai Super Kings on Thursday at Sharjah. The MS Dhoni-led side have 16 points from 10 matches and are almost guaranteed a playoffs spot but a defeat against SRH could spoil their plans of finishing on the top of the league table.

CSK come into the match after securing a last-ball win against Kolkata Knight Riders. In fact, the team from Chennai are on a three-game winning streak and will enter the match as the favourites. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have been scoring consistent runs for the franchise, but they will love to see Suresh Raina and Dhoni return to form with the bat.

Dwayne Bravo was rested during the last match and his replacement Sam Curran proved to be extremely expensive with the ball. So, we could see Bravo returning to the team and that should strengthen the lower-order that also boasts the like of Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur. Apart from Curran's expensive spell against KKR, there doesn't seem to be any other major worry for CSK in the bowling department.

SRH dropped David Warner in their last match against RR as debutant Jason Roy struck a timely half-century to help Hyderabad break the losing streak. Siddharth Kaul took two wickets on his return and Abhishek Sharma scored 21 valuable runs from lower-order in Hyderabad's win.

The Orange Army are expected to stick with the same team as Warner's time at the franchise seems to have come to an end.

IPL 2021 Points Table, Orange Cap and Purple Cap Latest Table Today: CSK qualify for play-offs with win over SRH

Rutaraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis hit quickfire runs Thursday to see Chennai Super Kings to a six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad and become the first side into the Indian Premier League playoffs.

The hard hitting openers put on 75 for the first wicket as Chennai reached 139 for four with two balls to spare after Hyderabad were restricted to 134 for seven.

Gaikwad hit 45 off 38 balls and South African veteran du Plessis 41 from 36 balls to set the three-time champions on the road to the key victory.

Captain MS Dhoni hit a six to complete the win in Sharjah.

Hyderabad were put in to bat and immediately suffered with Jason Roy going for two and captain Kane Williamson for 11.

Wriddhiman Saha's 44 off 46 balls kept the innings alive but once he was caught by Dhoni off master spinner Ravindra Jadeja, Hyderabad slowed and never looked likely to set a target to seriously challenge Chennai.

Chennai now lead the eight-team table with 18 points from 11 games, two ahead of Delhi Capitals, and are guaranteed a place in the four playoff spots.

Dhoni said it had been crucial to reach the last four for the 11th time in 12 years after the team was criticised for failing to qualify in 2020.

"Last time, we said we wanted to come back strong. We are known for that and there was a lot at stake," said Dhoni.

"You won't always win games and a lot didn't go our way last time, and it's important not to make excuses and we have done that this year," he added.

After record road runs, ultramarathoner Sufiya Khan covers Manali to Leh in five days

On Thursday, (30 September) Sufiya Khan would cross over to Leh, part of the union territory of Ladakh. In doing so, she would have covered a jaw-dropping 480 kms in 130 hours starting from Manali. With the feat, she would become the first female ultramarathoner to make this journey.

Labelled ‘Himalayan Ultra Run Expedition,’ Under Armour athlete Khan's journey saw her overcome multiple difficulties in the process. The run which began on 25 September, began at an altitude of 2,000m, reached up to 5,400m with total 9,000m elevation gain throughout the expedition. If that wasn't a daunting enough ask already, she had to manage fluctuations in temperatures too. The mercury dipped from minus 5 to minus 10 degrees affecting the oxygen levels on mountain passes.

This is not the first challenging route she's taken. In 2020, the 35-year-old Sufiya, a former aviation professional, got going on the Golden Quadrilateral highway network which is spread across 6,000 kms. With COVID-19 disruptions in between, she completed the run in 110 days, 23 hours and 24 minutes.

In 2018, she ran the Golden Triangle, Delhi-Jaipur-Agra-Delhi, spread over 720 kms in 16 days. The year after, she upped the target to cover Srinagar to Kanyakumari, distance of 4,000 kms, and achieved it in 87 days, 2 hours and 17 minutes. It was the fastest time by a female runner in the “Kashmir to Kanyakumari” category, according to Guinness World Records.

For Sufiya, it is important to break the journey into little targets and milestones. "For Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Golden Quadrilateral runs, it was all road running. Our strategy there was 50-60 kms per day. For Manali to Leh, it's a challenging route with harsh weather, low oxygen levels, high passes and high altitude so I need to do 100 kilometres a day. Per my plan, I will only get 3-4 hours of sleep and I have to be running all the time," she had said before embarking on the run.

The planning for the Manali to Leh run got underway six months ago. Supported by her partner Vikas, a cyclist, she arrived in the region 20 days before the starting time. "I ran across the high passes to acclimatise my body, to check if I can even endure such weather. Over the past six months, I've worked on strength and core workouts. For the mental challenges, I practice yoga and pranayam which is important for an ultramarathoner."

"At every pass, we stayed for a couple of days to check my body's reaction, to see how things will be when I start running. I had bit of a headache at the start but it got better. I then started getting used to the weather by running 10 or 15 kilometres a day."

Beyond the physical and mental, another aspect for a long distance runner like Sufiya is the diet. It comprises of protein powder, multi-vitamins, fruits, dates with stops at dhabas when required.

"After doing 100kms a day, your body will not be able to take a lot of calories at the end of the day. So my strategy is to keep consuming calories while I'm on the run - to keep taking in something every 15 or 20 minutes."

Themed 'Push your limits', Sufiya doesn't need to draw motivation from celebrities. She admits to being self-motivated and has the support of her husband Vikas. "When I go for such runs, my motivation is that I've started something, somewhere that you've reached after a struggle. Your body says you should give up, mind says otherwise. For me, before the run begins, there is a mission to finish it with positive energy and positive thoughts," she added.

KKR vs PBKS IPL 2021 Live Streaming: When and where to watch on TV and online

Kolkata Knight Riders take on Punjab Kings in the 45th match of IPL 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

KKR have come out firing on all cylinders in the second leg of IPL 2021. They have won three out of their four games and occupy the fourth position with 10 points. However, they can't afford to take it easy as every match is crucial. In their last match, the bowlers again did a brilliant job and restricted a formidable Delhi Capitals batting side to 127/9. They did stutter in the chase and were at one point 67/4 and 96/5 but a brisk 10-ball 21 from Sunil Narine and a composed 27-ball 36 from Nitish Rana helped them past the finish line.

While the bowlers have aced the middle overs, the batting needs improvement. Eoin Morgan has had a tough tournament so far and averaged just 11.88. Shubman Gill has played with freedom in the second leg but needs to carry on and get a big score. There will be expectations from Dinesh Karthik as well who averaged 26.83.

PBKS, on the other hand, will be more desperate to get some points on the board as they are sixth in the table with eight points.

Their middle and lower middle order has let them down. Chris Gayle hasn't fired, so has Nicholas Pooran. Gayle averages 21.44 while Pooran just 7.77. Their opening pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal has done most of the scoring. The latter missed out in the last match against MI with a stiff neck and PBKS will be hoping that he is fit for this match.

Their batsmen will face a stiff challenge against the KKR spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. They will need to find a way to score against Lockie Ferguson as well who's been brilliant so far.

KL Rahul managed just 21 in the last match against MI and would be looking to go big against KKR. He will be their key player in the batting department along with Ravi Bishnoi in the bowling department.

The middle and lower middle order will need to step up and support him.

An update from Cricket Australia confirms stumps has been called on the opening day of the landmark pink-ball Test between Australia and India at the Metricon Stadium in Gold Coast.

Australia Women Vs India Women, pink-ball Test Live Cricket Score Updates: Follow this space for the latest update on the opening day of the one-off pink-ball Test between Australia and India.

One-off Test Preview: India gear up for a historic first on Thursday when they take on a formidable Australian team in their own backyard in what will be their maiden appearance in a day-night Test.

The Indian team had only recently played their first Test in seven years when they toured England earlier this summer, the likes of Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana producing standout performances with the bat to help the visiting team earn a hard-fought draw against the Heather Knight-led team in Bristol.

A little over two months later, the team will be up for a fresh challenge — facing the pink ball under lights on the greenish surface at Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium against a team whose status as the number one team across formats has rarely been challenged in recent years, much less so on their own turf.

What India will seek inspiration from, however, is the fight they produced in the one-day international series against Meg Lanning and company. After getting outplayed by nine wickets in the series opener, Mithali Raj's side produced an admirable fightback in the next two games, taking the fight till the very last over on both occasions.

While they suffered a last-ball heartbreak in the second one-dayer that saw a plenty of drama occurring over a waist-high no-ball from Jhulan Goswami, the Indians fought back hard in the final ODI to not only collect their first points of the multi-format tour, but end the Aussies' 26-match winning streak in the 50-over format that had stretched all the way back to October 2017.
