It should be mentioned here that there was no opening ceremony for this year’s World Cup. The tournament started on 5 October with the England vs New Zealand match taking place at the same venue. The absence of an elaborate opening ceremony was a deliberate choice by the BCCI, as they wanted to focus on a pre-match show preceding the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash instead.
As we approach this match between India and Pakistan, the hosts certainly enjoy a clean slate. In the history of ODI World Cup matches, these two sides have met on seven occasions, and India have won all of them. The World Cup rivalry started in 1992 and since then, India have won all the matches in 50-over World Cup matches, resulting in numerous memorable moments but only one victorious team.
Both these sides come into this match after having won their first two games and it will be interesting to see the composition of the side for this crucial encounter.
