Dramatic scenes in the women’s 100m hurdles final. Both Yanni Wu and Jyothi Yarraji are warned by the officials for a false start even though replays show it was clearly China’s Wu who was at fault. Yarraji is on the verge of being disqualified for no fault of hers, but eventually the officials allow both athletes to run the race.
Wu wins the event and is followed by compatriot Yuewi Lin, with Yarraji initially winning bronze.
However, officials later disqualify Wu for her false start, clearly identifying her as the guilty party. With that, Jyothi Yarraji’s bronze medal gets UPGRADED TO SILVER!

Asian Games LIVE: India added four medals to their tally on Day 8 at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday. Aditi Ashok, who looked set for a golden flourish, had a disappointing day but still finished with a silver. The men’s and women’s trap shooters then bagged a gold and silver in th team events to take India’s tally to 41 medals. Kynan Chenai then won a bronze medal in the individual men’s trap event to inflate the country’s glorious shooting campaign.
India can expect more medals from the men’s shuttlers, who take on China, having already made history. Athletics has plenty of medal matches on the day which can fatten the country’s medal tally at the Games in China.

India’s medal tally reached 38 at the end of play on Saturday with two golds, two silvers and a bronze. The yellow metal came in men’s team squash and mixed doubles tennis, the silvers in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event and courtesy Karthik Kumar in Men’s 10,000m. Gulveer Singh bagged a bronze medal in the Men’s 10,000m.
The day also witnessed India men’s hockey team thrashing Pakistan 10-2, women’s doubles table tennis pairing of Ayhika and Sutirtha Mukherjee shocking World No 2 pairing of Chen Meng and Yidi Wang, boxers Narender Berwal, Preeti Panwar and Lovlina Borgohain progressing to the semi-finals and assuring themselves, and the country, of a medal.
