The last time India won an ICC title was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy in England. Since then India have reached the semi-finals and finals in ICC events, but have always fallen short. The good sign, however, for India is that they won the ODI World Cup last time it was held in India in 2011.

The 2011 World Cup win also came under the captaincy of Dhoni was India’s second world title in the 50-over format. Now Rohit has an opportunity to join the exclusive list of Indian captains (Kapil Dev and Dhoni) to win World Cups for India.

The Indian skipper understands the importance of the opportunity.

“World Cup is the biggest event I will be part of. Always a dream to be part of the World Cup team, it’s a big deal to be captain,” Rohit said ahead of the World Cup opener.

For India to have a successful campaign it will be imperative to start with a win and set the tone for the whole tournament.

Rohit added that India will look to stay in the moment and focus on one job at a time.

“Yes, it’s a World Cup but we want to focus on every opposition and game. What’s coming up tomorrow and keeping it simple. For me as a batter, I want to focus on what I can do best for the team. I will try and do everything required for the team,” added Rohit.
