Watch: Ravindra Jadeja wins 'best fielder award' after Bangladesh match, Team India celebrates

Team India’s dressing room erupted in jubilation when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was announced as the ‘Best Fielder’ following the side’s commanding win over Bangladesh in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Jadeja, who was stunning with the ball as well, pulled off an absolutely incredible catch to send back Mushfiqur Rahim during the India vs Bangladesh match.

Immediately after the catch, he zipped around looked towards the dressing room and asked the fielding coach to remember him when the awards were announced. KL Rahul, who won the award for his wicket-keeping against Pakistan, draped the medal around Jadeja’s neck.

India put on a truly commanding run-chase, reminiscent of their performances against Afghanistan, Pakistan, and, for the most part, Australia. Chasing down 252, captain Rohit Sharma started the offensive, as he took down the Bangladesh pacers and set the tone perfectly in the powerplay.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, slowly found his rhythm and notched up the half-century. Virat Kohli walked out, encountered a flurry of no-balls and free hits, and after this start, never really looked back and notched up his 48th ODI ton.

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja joined hands to restrict Bangladesh to 256 runs. Bangladesh were flying after the first powerplay, but the Indian bowlers got their act together and picked up regular wickets in the middle overs. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were brilliant in the field and plucked up sensational grabs.

Speaking at the end of Bangladesh’s innings, Jadeja said, “That celebration was for our fielding coach. After every game, we get the best fielder award so I was telling him I am also here (for the award).”

Virat Kohli was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant ton. India, after four wins on the bounce, will now take on New Zealand in Dharamsala.
