Former South Africa captain AB De Villiers has been quite active on his Youtube channel. In a recent episode, he spoke at length about the importance of a strong team as opposed to few talented individuals when it comes down to winning tournaments like the Cricket World Cup. De Villiers said he believed that in his view, it wasn’t MS Dhoni or Ben Stokes who had won trophies in 2011 and 2019 respectively, but rather it was the India and England cricket teams who had emerged victorious.
The Proteas legend was not too happy with cricket fans idolising individual accomplishments without considering the team aspect. He mentioned on his YouTube channel, “Cricket is a team game, it is not a player lifting the World Cup. I see that way too often on social media platforms. MS Dhoni did not win the World Cup, India won the World Cup, so keep that in mind. Do not forget that. Ben Stokes did not lift the trophy in Lord’s back in 2019, it was Team England.”
The last time the Indian team won a global ICC title was under MS Dhoni’s captaincy back in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Dhoni is the only captain to have won all the three titles – the 2007 World T20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
India will be hosting the World Cup this year and the team under Rohit Sharma will be keen to hit the ground running and repeat their 2011 feat.

AB de Villiers had earlier praised Mohammed Siraj for his attitude and for always putting in the best performance for a side. Siraj and de Villiers were teammates at the Royal Challengers Bangalore and hence, the South African batter spoke about how the pacer brings a lot of heart to his performances.
“He always just keeps coming back. He is always in your face and I have mentioned this before. The bowlers who are respected the most are the guys that never gave up. They would always compete for every single ball, be in your face. And that’s what Siraj does,” De Villiers went on to add.
