AR Rahman slammed for sharing video highlights of controversial Chennai concert

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman is making headlines for his musical concert ‘Marakkuma Nenjam.’ In the latest, the music maestro posted a “highlights” video of his controversial Chennai concert on social media. The event, which took place on 10 September, was condemned by fans for its gross mismanagement.

Based on several media reports, the concert, which received immense backlash, finally ended with the police registering cases against an ACTC Events official. Not just this, the organisers have also been booked for overselling tickets, committing a breach of trust and causing inconvenience to people.

AR Rahman‘s recent post involving the “highlights” section comes days after ‘apologising and promising to fix’ what happened at the latest Chennai-based musical concert. Concerning the same, AR Rahman on Sunday tweeted the concert’s video but disabled the comment section of the post.

As the music maestro posted the Chennai concert’s highlights, he was slammed by X users for calling the uneventful day a traumatic experience for many who attended it.

AR Rahman becomes the ‘sacrificial goat’

Moments after AR Rahman‘s Chennai concert was slammed for poor management, with many poking fingers to explain their ordeal, the composer posted a heartwarming note on Instagram. As part of the unfortunate event, the composer promised compensation for those who couldn’t enter the venue despite having valid tickets. “Let me be the sacrificial goat this time so that we can all wake up.” he captioned the post.

Daughters Raheema Rahman and Khatija Rahman defend their father

While at the same time, AR Rahman’s two daughters – Raheema Rahman and Khatija Rahman – also stepped forward to defend their father. Sharing an infographic about the composer’s previous performances, the post vividly described Rahman’s previous concerts held in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

For those blaming him for ‘pulling a scam’ through the concert, the post pointed out the help given to flood victims, COVID-affected families and others.

On 10 September, Sunday, AR Rahman performed live at Adityaram Palace in Chennai for over 45,000 attendees. Poor management by the event organizers, ACTC Events, led to overcrowding and a stampede-like situation with many ticket holders denied entry inside. Following the gruesome event, the Tambaram Police investigated the chaotic traffic.

Taking cognizance of the situation, Rahman and the event management company have promised to make up for the trouble.
