India began their Asian Games 2023 campaign on a confident note on Sunday by winning three silver and two bronze medals.
India’s shooting contingent has delivered medals consistently over the years across a host of events, including in the Olympics, and on Sunday it was the women’s 10m air rifle trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey who helped open India’s account with a silver.
Jindal would later add an individual bronze to the team silver in the 10m air rifle event.
The remaining medals would come from rowing events. Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won silver in Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls. Also winning silver was the Indian Men’s Eight team comprising of Neeraj, Naresh Kalwaniya, Neetish Kumar, Charanjeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar and Ashish.
Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav would win bronze in Men’s Pair.
More medals could be in store for the Indian contingent on Monday with the Indian women’s cricket team set to face Sri Lanka in the gold medal match. A number of Indians will also be looking to add to the medals won in shooting and rowing.
