Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma enters 10,000-run club, sixth Indian in list

Rohit Sharma entered the exclusive 10,000-run club against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup Super 4s fixture on Tuesday. He reached the mark by going past the 23-run mark with a six during his 241st inning in the format.

Rohit entered the contest against Sri Lanka on 9,978 runs having inched closer to the milestone with a 56-run knock against Pakistan on Sunday. When it looked like he would reach the landmark versus the arch-rivals, he was dismissed by Shadab Khan.

But there was no hiccups on Tuesday against Sri Lanka. The 36-year-old got off to a rocking start after India won the toss and decided to bat.

Rohit is the sixth Indian to enter the 10,000 run club and the third Indian opener after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Other Indians to score 10,000 runs are Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Kohli (13,027*), Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889) and MS Dhoni (10,773).

The Indian captain went on to collect his 51st ODI half-century as the game against Sri Lanka progressed. He has scored 30 ODI centuries while averaging nearly 49 since making his debut in 2007.
