The 2023 Asian Games may not have officially started, but some sporting disciplines have already got underway.
On Wednesday, the Indian men’s volleyball team had a memorable outing, as they stunned South Korea with a 3-2 scoreline to top their group. India now have two wins in as many matches after getting the better of South Korea.
The win also meant that India reached the knockout stage of the men’s volleyball competition.
Meanwhile, Mayank Chaphekar created history by become the first athlete to compete in Pentathlon. Mayank finished in 28th out of 29 competitors.
India also finished first in the first heats of the men’s fours rowing competition, clocking a time of 6:20:47.
There will be quite a few sporting action to look forward to on Thursday. The India women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will be in action as they face Malaysia in the quarter-finals.
The India men’s football team, on the other hand, will look to return to winning ways when they face Bangladesh in their next group match. The Blue Tigers had succumbed to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of hosts China in their opener on Tuesday.
The India women’s football team will also begin their Asian Games campaign, taking on Chinese Taipei in what should be a challenging encounter. Chinese Taipei are ranked higher at 38 than compared to India (60).
