Indian men’s volleyball team defeated Chinese Taipei in the knockout round on Friday to advance to the quarter-finals and continue their impressive run at the Asian Games 2023.
Chinese Taipei who won the bronze in the 2018 Asian Games are ranked 43 in the world while India are ranked 73. The rankings however mattered for little as India clinched a 3-0 victory, beating Chinese Taipei 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
India had reached the knockout round by beating South Korea and Cambodia in the group stage.
India began their campaign by beating Cambodia 3-0 on Tuesday before stunning world no 27 South Korea 3-2 in a five-set thriller on Wednesday.

Korea, who are three-time champions, suffered a 27-25, 27-29, 22-25, 25-20, 15-17 defeat to India.
India will now face world No 5 Japan in the quarter-finals.
India’s last medal in volleyball, a bronze, came in the 1986 edition. They had finished 12th in the 2018 Games.
