Asia Cup 2023: What if remaining Super 4 matches are washed out? Scenarios explained

India delivered a complete performance to down Pakistan by 228 runs on Monday in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli both notched up dominant centuries, setting the stage for the Indian bowlers to dismantle Pakistan. After the pacers set the stage with quick wickets, Kuldeep Yadav sealed the victory with a five-wicket haul. The win is India’s largest over Pakistan in an ODI in terms of runs.

India will now take on Sri Lanka after this resounding performance and this will test the fitness of their players and how the management uses them to extract the best-possible performance. The win against Pakistan has given a massive boost to their run-rate and augurs well for the side to make it to the final.

Rain remains a threat even for this India vs Sri Lanka match. As per Accuweather, chances of precipitation is 84 percent and the game will be interrupted throughout the day. It has to be mentioned here that unlike the India vs Pakistan match, there will not be any reserve day for the rest of the matches in the Super 4 round.

Hypothetically, if all the remaining India matches are washed out, they will be taking on Sri Lanka in the final. A victory for India today, however, will confirm their berth in the final.

As things stand, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka all have two points each with Bangladesh on zero points. Sri Lanka have two matches remaining: against India and Pakistan. Bangladesh have one remaining: against India.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan have already beaten Bangladesh before clashing with India in the Super 4 game. Pakistan have just one match to go in the in the Super 4 phase where they will take on Sri Lanka in their last fixture. As far as the current standings are concerned, Pakistan are well behind Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh’s chances of securing a final berth are almost non-existent.
