It was only on 2 September, in the Asia Cup group match against Pakistan when Shreyas had made his competitive return after recovering from a back injury, that kept him out of the game for almost six months.
Iyer scored 14 runs against Pakistan, while he did not need to bat in India’s second group match against Nepal.
India, meanwhile, qualified for the final of the Asia Cup with wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage. The Men in Blue will once again take on Sri Lanka, in the final in Colombo on Sunday. Sri Lanka qualified for the final with a thrilling two-wicket win over Pakistan on Thursday.
