Imran Tahir, the winning captain of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, shared how R Ashwin and his prediction came true as his side bagged the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title. Speaking at the post-match presentation after leading the Amazon Warriors’ to an emphatic nine-wicket win over the Trinbago Knight Riders, Tahir revealed Ashwin’s prediction. He also said that there were several others who had playfully teased him about his captaincy appointment.
“Want to thank our analyst Prasanna (Agoram). He’s been working 20 hours a day and giving me all the plans. I’m really grateful to him and also want to thank Ashwin from India. He said before the competition that we will do it,” Tahir said.
When Ash says something, believe it. Imran Tahir thanks @ashwinravi99 after winning the CPL!

Amazon Warriors were in great form as they had topped the league table. However, they stumbled against the Knight Riders in the first Qualifier. The team then bounced back in some style as they blew away the Jamaica Tallawahs for a mere 101 runs in the second Qualifier. They continued this performance when they knocked over the Knight Riders to a meager 94 runs during the final.
In the final, Guyana Amazon Warriors opted to bowl first and put forward a solid performance with the ball as they dismissed the Knight Riders for just 94 runs. Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie starred with the ball with their economical spells. Dwaine Pretorius picked up four crucial wickets.
The chase was not very straight forward as the Knight Riders dragged the game with their spinners. However, Saim Ayub and Shai Hope, the leading run-scorers in the CPL this season, stamped their class and steered the team to victory and won the match by nine wickets.
“That’s the thing, I think if you want something really badly, it will happen for you, even though we lost our first Qualifier. Everyone (was talking) about the toss and we did it in both situations (batting and bowling first), and we won games. The team belief was there,” Tahir further added.
