The auction for players in the upcoming 2024 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) was held in Mumbai on Saturday. All five teams — Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Gujarat Giants (GG), and UP Warriorz (UP) — participated in the event.
The auction saw a total of 165 players go under the hammer, comprising 104 Indians and 61 overseas players. Just 30 slots had to be filled across the five teams. Players were categorised into five price slabs: Rs 50 lakh, Rs 40 lakh, Rs 30 lakh, Rs 20 lakh, and Rs 10 lakh.
Each franchise had a different purse remaining going into the auction and different slot requirements to meet as far as squad size is concerned. Teams can have a minimum of 15 players and a maximum of 18 players, including six foreign players.
The second season of WPL is scheduled to take place in February next year.
