For the first ODI between India and South Africa at the Wanderers in Cape Town, fans, the host team and pretty much everything possible will bear a pink colour on Sunday. After the T20I series between these two teams ended in a 1-1 draw, action has moved to the 50-over format before things take to Test cricket.
LIVE: India vs South Africa 1st ODI
Besides the allure of the cricket, one more aspect will draw plenty of attention on Sunday. It is the fact that Wanderers is turning pink in a noble initiative.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) is organising “Pink Day” – an initiative to raise awareness about Breast Cancer disease which claims numerous lives around the globe every year.
Beyond just creating awareness, the occasion also looks to generate funds in order disseminate information that could potentially help in the battle against breast cancer. The fixture in Johannesburg has been sold out.
At the toss, India skipper KL Rahul said, “Special day. Seen lots of pink ODIs on TV.” Aiden Markram, his counterpart, said, “Fantastic day (pink day), hopefully both teams can put on a good show.”
On the cricket side of things, South Africa are batting in the first ODI after winning the toss. Nandre Burger makes his debut for the home side. For India, Sai Sudarshan is making his debut.
