भारतीय की स्टार बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी पीवी सिंधु ने मलेशिया ओपन के क्वार्टरफाइनल में स्पेन की कैरोलिना मारिन को 22-20, 21-19 से सीधे सेटों में हराकर सेमीफाइनल में जगह बनाई। पहले सेट में मारिन से पीछे 20-18 से पीछे होने के बावजूद सिंधु ने कड़ी टक्कर देते हुए 4 लगातार पाइंट्स स्कोर किए और पहले सेट में जीत हासिल की। इसके बाद अगले सेट में उन्होंने मारिन को कोई मौका नहीं दिया और पहले ही चरण में 7 पाइंट्स की अहम बढ़त हासिल कर ली। हालांकि, मारिन ने अंतिम मौकों पर वापसी की कोशिश की, लेकिन सिंधु ने आसानी से मैच पॉइंट हासिल कर लिया।

विश्व कप में गुरुवार को ग्रुप एच में पोलैंड ने जापान को 1-0 से हरा दिया। इस हार के बावजूद जापान की टीम आखिरी 16 में पहुंच गई। दरअसल, इसी ग्रुप के समारा स्टेडियम में हुए मैच में कोलंबिया के जीतने का लाभ उसे मिला। कोलंबिया ने सेनेगल को 1-0 से हरा दिया। इस तरह अंक तालिका में कोलंबिया 6 अंक के साथ पहले स्थान पर पहुंच गया। जापान और सेनेगल के 4-4 अंक रहे। दोनों टीमों का गोल अंतर भी बराबर था, लेकिन फेयरप्ले नियम के तहत जापान अगले दौर में पहुंचने में सफल रहा। जापान विश्व कप के इतिहास में पहली एेसी टीम है, जो फेयरप्ले के तहत अगले दौर में पहुंची है। पोलैंड के लिए जेन बेडनारेक ने 59वें मिनट में राफेल कुरजावा के पास पर गोल किया।

रूस में 14 जून से शुरू हो रहे फुटबॉल वर्ल्ड कप में 32 देशों की टीमें हिस्सा लेंगी। इनमें सिर्फ इंग्लैंड ऐसी टीम है, जिसके सभी फुटबॉलर अपने देश के क्लबों यानी इंग्लिश प्रीमियर लीग में खेलते हैं। बाकी 31 टीमों में कई खिलाड़ी ऐसे हैं जो दूसरे देशों के क्लब से खेलते हैं। सेनेगल और स्वीडन की फुटबॉल टीम का कोई भी खिलाड़ी अपने देश के क्लब से नहीं खेलता। जबकि स्विट्जरलैंड, आइसलैंड, नाइजीरिया और बेल्जियम की टीम में 1-1 खिलाड़ी ही ऐसे हैं, जो अपने देश के क्लब से खेलते हैं। इस वर्ल्ड कप में 32 देशों के कुल 736 फुटबॉलर हिस्सा लेंगे। इनमें से कुल 209 खिलाड़ी यानी 28% अपने देश के क्लबों से खेलते हैं। 72% विदेशी क्लबों से खेलते हैं।

विश्व कप: स्वीडन 12 साल बाद प्री-क्वार्टरफाइनल में पहुंचा, मैक्सिको को 3-0 से हराया

विश्व कप ग्रुप एफ में बुधवार को स्वीडन ने मैक्सिको को 3-0 से हरा दिया। इस जीत के साथ ही स्वीडन 12 साल बाद प्री-क्वार्टरफाइनल में पहुंच गया। आखिरी बार वह 2006 में आखिरी 16 में पहुंचा था। स्वी़डन के लुडविग ऑगिस्टनसन ने 50वें मिनट में गोल कर टीम को मैच में आगे कर दिया। उसके बाद कप्तान ग्रांक्विस्ट ने 62वें मिनट में दूसरा गोल पेनल्टी से किया। मैक्सिको के अल्वारेज ने 74वें मिनट में आत्मघाती गोल कर दिया।

क्रिकेट के 90 फीसदी प्रशंसक भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में, 92% लोग टी-20 को करते हैं पसंद- आईसीसी का सर्वे

आईसीसी ने दुनिया भर में क्रिकेट को लेकर एक सर्वे कराया है। इस सर्वे में सामने आया है कि क्रिकेट के सबसे ज्यादा 90 फीसदी प्रशंसक भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप (भारत, पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश और श्रीलंका) से आते हैं। वहीं, दुनिया भर में सबसे ज्यादा 92 फीसदी लोग क्रिकेट के छोटे फॉर्मेट टी-20 को पसंद करते हैं। सर्वे 12 सदस्य देशों के अलावा चीन और अमेरिका में भी किया गया है। इसके अनुसार क्रिकेट को चाहने वाले फैंस 16 से 69 साल की आयु वर्ग के हैं और दुनिया भर में क्रिकेट को चाहने वालों की औसत उम्र 34 साल है।
