Ricky Ponting's stunning David Warner prediction that came true

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting once again displayed his brilliant cricketing acumen by accurately predicting the manner of David Warner’s dismissal in the ongoing Sydney Test against Pakistan. Playing his last Test, David Warner received a reprieve on 20 when debutant Saim Ayub dropped a dolly at first slip.

However, Warner’s stay at the crease was cut short by Agha Salman for 34 with a superb delivery that spun and bounced. Warner went after it and the ball took the edge and Babar Azam pouched it at the slip. Interestingly, Ponting had predicted this moment shortly before Warner’s dismissal.

While Sajid Khan was bowling without much success, Ponting said that Pakistan should bring Salman as a replacement. On Channel 7, Ponting said, “Salman was quite impressive in the first couple of Test matches with his off-spin.

“Didn’t bowl many bad balls. To me, it looks like he gets more work on the ball than what Sajid does. Hasn’t really turned many today, Sajid. Worth giving [Salman] a bit of a crack before the lunch break.”

It was exactly what Pakistan did as Slaman dismissed Warner.

Justin Langer, who played under Ricky Ponting, was amazed by the former captain’s cricketing acumen and jokingly asked if he had ever captained a side before. Ponting, with his characteristic wit, replied, “Once or twice JL. What a piece of bowling it was. I had the feeling. He gets a lot of work on the ball. That took a chunk out of the top of the wicket. Squared Warner up. Off he goes.”

Earlier in the Test match, Pakistan reached 313 in their first innings courtesy of Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Agha, and Aamer Jamal. In response, Australia were well placed at 116 for 2 when rain halted the match.

The hosts have already won the series 2-0 and would want to take the series 3-0. Pakistan, on the other hand, are looking for their first win in Australia since 1995.
