South Africa vs Afghanistan Live Score, Cricket World Cup 2023: Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and opted to bat first against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Afghanistan playing XI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Ikram Alikhil(w), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq

South Africa have already qualified for the semi-finals and while Afghanistan are still mathematically alive in the race, they need to beat the Proteas by 438 runs to have a better net run rate than New Zealand who are favorite to reach the last four stage.

The defeat to Australia in which Glenn Maxwell slammed a mind-blowing 201 not out was the biggest blow to Afghanistan. Had they won the game, they would have been the favourite to reach the semi-final.

For the Proteas, a victory over Afghanistan will give them the much-required confidence ahead of the semi-final against Australia. South Africa have been one of the best sides in the World Cup but suffered a 243-run defeat to India in their last game in which they were bowled out for just 83.
