India will play host to Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series in January. It will be the first time they will meet in a multi-match white-ball series, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed on Tuesday.
The series will get underway on 11 January in Mohali and will then move to Indore (14 January). It will conclude in Bengaluru on 17 January.
The series is sandwiched between India’s tour of South Africa – three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests – and the five match series against England that begins in early February.
India and Afghanistan have played five T20 matches overall. Men in Blue have won four of those while their latest, at the Asian Games, ended without a result. India, however, were determined to be the winners on account of a better seeding.
Afghanistan, considered the minnows of world cricket, caused quite the stir at the recently concluded ODI World Cup.
Afghans picked up four wins but missed out on qualifying for the next stage of the tournament. They beat England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Netherlands while running Australia close.
The team’s account during the extravaganza in India was however good enough for them to book a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
