The victory comes for Pakistan after losing back-to-back games to India and Zimbabwe in the group earlier in the week. Despite the win, the side remains fifth in the six-team group while the Netherlands still dwell at the bottom with a third consecutive loss. Only the top two from the group progress to the semi-finals.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Netherlands lost three of their top-order batters inside the powerplay. This included a retired hurt for No. 3 Bas de Leede, who received a nasty blow below his eyes off a Haris Rauf bouncer while Shaheen Afridi (1/19) also picked his first wicket of the tournament as the Dutch were 19/2 by the beginning of the seventh over.
The continued discipline bowling kept Dutch batters in check as just 34 runs were scored in the first 10 overs. In-form Colin Ackermann, who top scored with a run-a-ball 27, seemed like the only hope that could take the batting side to a good total but Shadab Khan’s spell at the backend of the innings left the Dutch 61/4 in 13.4 overs.
Pacers Naseem Shah (1/11), Mohammad Wasim (2/15) and Haris Rauf (1/10) went through the lower-order as Dutch somehow managed to see out the 20 overs.
Chasing 92, Babar Azam had disappointed again as he was run out with a direct hit by Roelof van der Merwe. His opening partner Mohammad Rizwan, however, stopped the side from panicking as he led the chase with a 39-ball 49, laced with five boundaries. Brandon Glover (2/22) earned the consolatory wickets of Fakhar Zaman (20 runs off 16 balls) and Shan Masood (12 off 16) while Paul van Meekeren (1/19) dismissed Rizwan.
Pakistan will now face South Africa at Sydney Cricket Ground on 3 November.
