India vs Australia 4th Test Day 5 Highlights: Ahmedabad Test ends in high-scoring draw, India win series 2-1

That brings us to the end of our coverage of the fourth and final Test between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, with the action now shifting to the one-dayers — the first of which takes place on Friday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

A tame end to what turned out to be another fiercely fought series between these two great cricketing nations, with India once again walking away with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in their possession. Australia, who have not beaten India in a Test series since 2014-15 at home, deserve credit for a superb comeback in the third and fourth Tests after crumbling to one-sided defeats inside three days in each of the first two games.

Among their biggest gains in this series would be the discovery of a couple of gems in Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann in the spin department, as well as Usman Khawaja and Travis Head's form with the bat at the top of the order. For the hosts, Virat Kohli ending a long drought after more than three years and the manner in which Axar Patel contributed both with bat and ball would be their key talking points.

Australia will certainly be backing themselves to come out on top in the World Test Championship final in June after the kind of fight they displayed in the last two weeks.

Despite Australia still appearing very comfortable at the moment, that wicket will have raised the Indian spirits at the moment. Wicket maiden to Axar, with Ashwin collecting a maiden from the other end.

Not much happening at Motera otherwise, with Head and Labuschagne appearing rock solid at the moment.

Head collects a brace off Axar in the following over before collecting a boundary off the last ball, bringing up his 13th Test half-century — and his first of the ongoing tour!

Rohit and Co will still be harbouring hopes of pulling a rabbit out of the hat and collecting a 3-1 series victory instead of 2-1.

Ashwin confidently shouts for a leg-before after the ball straightens a bit after pitching between middle and leg and hits Head on the front pad, with skipper Rohit making the 'T' sign after umpire Nitin Menon turns it down. HawkEye shows the ball to be clipping leg, allowing the Indians to retain their review.

Umesh Yadav then sends down the final over of the session as Australia head to lunch on 73/1, trailing by another 18 runs. The opening session has well and truly belonged to the visitors, with Head and Labuschagne both appearing well set, and the Motera track still appearing helpful to the batters.

Iyer taken for scans, doubtful for ODIs

Shreyas Iyer was taken for scans on Sunday after he complained of back pain on the fourth day of India vs Australia Test being played at Ahmedabad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India medical team said that Iyer had complained of lower back pain after the third day’s play in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Day 5 preview: India will be eyeing early breakthroughs as they aim to make short work of the Australian batting lineup to try and win a Test that currently appears to be meandering towards a draw.

Australia are set to resume from their overnight score of 3/0 on the final day of the fourth and final Test against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with their chances of pulling off a series-leveling win appearing unlikely after India’s strong response with the bat.

The hosts rode on centuries from Virat Kohli (186) and Shubman Gill (128) to post a sizeable 571 on the board, with middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer unable to show up after complaining of lower back issues for which he was sent for scans.

The Aussies had sent No 11 batter Matthew Kuhnemann to open alongside Travis Head in the remaining overs of the evening session on Sunday due to doubts over Usman Khawaja’s fitness. Khawaja, who smashed 180 in the first innings, appeared to have hurt his leg while attempting to prevent the ball from going over the rope at long off, and subsequently had to walk off the field due to discomfort.

The Aussies will hope it’s a minor knock, and that he’s able to thwart the Indian attack on the final day.
