Mumbai took lead for the first time in the Ranji Trophy final on Day 5 morning against Madhya Pradesh when a half-century from Suved Parkar took the 41-time champions close to 200 runs with in-form Sarfaraz Khan in Bengaluru on Sunday.
However, it was MP who took grabbed the first innings lead, meaning Mumbai are second-favourites for the title with less than three sessions of the match left to play.
At the time of writing this report, Mumbai were 198/5 in 35 overs after scoring 374 in the first innings in response to MP's 536 all out. The going got tougher for the Ranji giants, who lost two wickets in the 35th over of 50-up Parkar and newly-in Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) to left-arm spin bowler Kumar Kartikeya.
Earlier, Mumbai resumed on Day 5 at 113/2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after cutting MP's sizeable lead of 162 runs to 49 runs the other day. Prithvi Shaw, along with promoted opener Hardik Tamore, gave a good start to Mumbai as they added 63 rusn for the first wicket.
Both, however, fell by the end of the day as Shaw scored 52-ball 44 while Tamore contributed 25 runs off 32 balls.
