IPL 2023 Final: Mohit Sharma's rhythm was broken, nobody should have said anything to him, says Sunil Gavaskar

Mohit Sharma’s extraordinary run in IPL 2023 ended in a heartbreak as the veteran seamer got hit for a six and a four off the last two deliveries of the final, resulting in the trophy slipping out of Gujarat Titans’ grasp and into Chennai Super Kings’ hands.

Sharma had been bowling a superb spell until the last two deliveries of the truncated 15-over chase, nearly bowling GT to victory after CSK’s target had been reduced to 171 from 215 following a rain-forced delay. The veteran seamer got rid of Ajinkya Rahane in his first over before dismissing Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni in successive deliveries in his second. He then conceded just three runs in four balls after being tasked with preventing Chennai from scoring 13 in the final over.

A lapse in concentration, however, resulted in the seamer getting punished by Ravindra Jadeja, who got CSK over the line in dramatic fashion to seal their fifth title win in 10 finals.

Reacting to the climax of the match, former India captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar felt Mohit’s rhythm and focus were disturbed with due to the bowler having a long chat or an extended break before bowling each of the last two deliveries, which had an adverse impact on Gujarat’s fortunes.

“He had bowled the first 3-4 delivery absolutely brilliantly. Then, for some strange reason, some water was sent to him. In the middle of the over, some drink was sent to him. Then Hardik Pandya came and spoke with him. You know when a bowler is in that rhythm and he is mentally also there, nobody should have said anything to him.

“Maybe from a distance, they could have just said ‘well bowled’. Going to them, talking to him – I do not think that was the right thing to do because suddenly, he was looking here and there. Till then, he was focused and I do not think what they did was the right idea. Because after that, he went for runs,” Gavaskar said on Sports Today after the final.

Mohit’s three-wicket burst though, saw him finish level with teammate Rashid Khan on the wicket-takers’ list with both having 27 scalps to their credit though Mohit would finish ahead of Rashid at the second spot due to his superior average and economy. GT dominated the bowling chart in the 16th season with powerplay specialist Mohammed Shami finishing on top and winning the Purple Cap with 28 wickets in 17 appearances.

WTC Final: We could face similarities at The Oval to what we had in India, says Steve Smith on potential spin threat

Australia’s batting mainstay Steve Smith expects conditions at World Test Championship final to be batter friendly but believes that they could face India-like conditions as the game progresses.

With true pace and bounce, the venue offers one of the best batting conditions in the UK. India are supposed to play their forefront spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in their bid to take advantage of the circumstances.

“The Oval can present itself with some spin occasionally particularly as the game wears on so we could face some sort of similarities to what we had in India at certain stages of the game.

“But The Oval is a wonderful place to play cricket in. Lightening fast outfield, the square goes whole way across the ground so it is a nice place to bat when you get in and has some decent pace and bounce for an English surface. Should be an absolute cracker,” Smith told cricket.com.au ahead of the final beginning 7 June.

Despite their improved spin play as the Test series against India progressed, Australia lost 2-1. Smith was the captain when the team won the third Test in Indore.

“The WTC is a great initiative. It gives every game we play a lot of relevance and for us to have qualified on top and face India in the final is incredibly exciting. It is going to be India and us at the Oval.

“I am sure there will be plenty of fans out there, probably more Indian than Australian but I am sure it is going to be great fun and guys are looking forward to it,” he said.

Smith is among the Australian batters who played county cricket in England as part of the preparations for the WTC final and subsequent Ashes.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh to wrestlers: 'Will hang myself if single allegation is proven... present evidence in court'

Amid ongoing protest by wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment charges, the BJP MP has claimed that he will hang himself if even a single allegation against him is proven.

Read | How the wrestlers’ protest puts the spotlight on rampant sexual abuse in Indian sports

“If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court and I am ready to accept any punishment,” Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said during a rally.

A day prior, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, who have been at the forefront of the protest that began in January, had announced they would immerse their World and Olympic medals in the holy Ganges river. After reaching Haridwar, they were made to reconsider by khap and farmer leaders.

The wrestlers have now given five days to the government to take action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who they have accused of sexual harassment of female grapplers including of a minor.

On Sunday, a kilometre away from where the new Parliament building was inaugurated, the wrestlers and supporters were violently detained as they wished to protest during a ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’. The wrestlers had been protesting at Jantar Mantar site for over a month demanding Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh be arrested.

After being detained, they were taken into buses to unclear locations but were later released only after being booked for violation of law and order. Ironically, the wrestlers could only get FIRs filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh after approaching the court.

ICC top brass arrives in Pakistan to see PCB's assurance of sending team for World Cup

International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice arrived in Lahore on Wednesday to seek the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) commitment to the ODI World Cup later this year as well as a guarantee that it won’t push for a hybrid model for the showpiece event.

The top ICC brass decided to make the trip after PCB chairman Najam Sethi’s statement that they would not be sending a team to India for the World Cup if their neighbours did not visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup first.

Sethi, who replaced former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja in the role, has indicated that the Pakistan team could not travel to their neighbouring country without government clearance, and that the ICC would have to organise its matches at a neutral venue in case the Shahbaz Sharif-led government continued having security concerns.

“The ICC and World Cup hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are concerned with the hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB.

“Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India,” a source was quoted as telling PTI.

The BCCI, meanwhile, continues to insist it will not send the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup which takes place ahead of the World Cup. It had initially pushed for its matches to be hosted at a neutral venue such as UAE or Sri Lanka, which was included in Sethi’s proposed “hybrid solution” for the tournament.

However, with the Sri Lanka and Bangladesh boards raising objections to the ideal of shuttling between two different nations in a short period of time, the BCCI is now said to be in favour of shifting the whole tournament to a different country, with Sri Lanka being the likely candidate.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, meanwhile, has announced that the full schedule of the upcoming World Cup will be announced during the World Test Championship final that takes place at The Oval in London between 7 to 11 June.

IPL 2023 Final: 'Hats off to Sir Jadeja, he delivered for CSK', Irfan Pathan heaps praise on Chennai all-rounder

Ravindra Jadeja has been showered with praises non-stop since adding the finishing touch to Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final.

Jadeja belted a six and a four off Mohit Sharma’s bowling off the last two deliveries of the final, helping the MS Dhoni-led side pull off their fifth title and go level with Mumbai Indians on trophy count in the process.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who played for teams such as Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, doffed his hat to the man from Jamnagar who pulled off one of the greatest heists witnessed in the rich history of the world’s biggest T20 league.

“Hats off to Sir Jadeja. He delivered for CSK in a crunch situation and took his team to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. He held on to his nerves even as the game seemed to have slipped away from CSK’s grip.

“Personally, he went through a lot last season, but the India star all-rounder has put all the disappointments behind him. The son of Gujarat wins it for a team from Chennai in front of a capacity ground in Ahmedabad. It couldn’t have been better,” Pathan said on Star Sports following Chennai’s victory.

Read | Jadeja regains Yellow Army’s love as blockbuster season gets fitting finale

Pathan, a former seamer himself, also extended his sympathies to Mohit, who had been bowling a superb spell until the last two balls and nearly bowled his team to victory for a second game in a row.

“The emotion Mohit Sharma must be going through is unimaginable. But what an impact he has made in this tournament? It was once in a lifetime performance from Mohit Sharma, and this season, he should be proud of what he has achieved. Hope he continues the good show in the coming seasons as well,” added the Baroda native.

Meanwhile, Chennai skipper Dhoni hinted at extending his IPL career to “at least one more season” during the post-match chat. Both fans and experts had been speculating the 2023 season to be MSD’s swansong and that there would be no better occasion for him to call it a day than right after leading CSK to a fifth title — their second in three editions.

Indian spin legend Harbhajan Singh, who shared both the India and the CSK dressing room with ‘Thala’, described it as the “biggest news for fans”.

“This is the biggest news for fans. MS Dhoni will come back next year and he will return with even better fitness. Fans will get to witness their beloved Thala don that yellow jersey again. The expectations are going to be high from CSK next year and this team knows pretty well how to handle that pressure of expectations,” Star Sports expert Harbhajan added.

'Ravindra Jadeja has done something only sir Ravi Jadeja would': Suresh Raina after CSK win IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings turned on the heat in the rain-curtailed IPL 2023 Final to beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets (via DLS method) at a packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in a game that concluded at 01.35 am on Tuesday morning.

IPL 2023: Full coverageResults | Orange Cap | Purple Cap

This was the fifth title win for the MS Dhoni-led side and they are now tied with Mumbai Indians as the most successful outfit in the tournament over the past 16 seasons. The Titans had put up a stiff 214/4 in their 20 overs thanks largely to a hurricane 96 runs (47b, 8×4, 6×6) by Sai Sudharsan and a spirited 54 runs (39b, 5×4, 1×6) by wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha.

Just when CSK had got their chase underway, the rains came pelting down leading to a stoppage of over two hours. The game resumed at 12.10 am with a revised target of 171 in 15 overs, and CSK were off to a fine start with openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 runs, 16b, 3×4, 1×6) and Devon Conway (47 runs, 25b, 4×4, 2×6) putting on 74.

However, in the 15th and final over, CSK found themselves on the edge, needing 10 runs off the last two balls. That’s when the vastly experienced Ravindra Jadeja swung the game in his team’s favour, hitting medium pacer Mohit Sharma for a six and a four.

Post CSK’s triumph, JioCinema IPL expert Suresh Raina, said: “I am very happy that Ravindra Jadeja got to hit the winning shot. The way he has been wanting to help the team to wins, hitting a six and a four after amazing dot balls from Mohit Sharma. I think this was sensational. You could see MS Dhoni hugging Jadeja in the dressing room. This is a massive moment, all of India was cheering them on. JioCinema was covering them, even the ground was yellow. Ravindra Jadeja has done something only sir Ravi Jadeja would!”

IPL Final: Watch Jadeja’s last over heroics that helped CSK clinch title

Another JioCinema IPL expert AB de Villiers said: “The best tournament I’ve seen of the IPL. We’ve had so many close finishes and this was just the perfect finish. To go to the last ball on the final day of the TATA IPL 2023. I’m happy. I know the cricket lovers out there had a lot of fun, and we had a lot of fun too.”

Speaking about MS Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, who’s also a JioCinema IPL expert, said: “Look at where he’s in his career. He’s at the far end, so he’s really looking to enjoy himself and enjoy every moment that he experiences. That’s precisely what he’s doing. I don’t think he’s thinking about retirement at the moment. I think he’ll take his time, think about everything, soak everything in, and like you said earlier in the tournament, he’ll make a decision six to seven months from now.”

While the all-rounder was soon mobbed by the CSK players for playing an incredible match-winning knock, the commentators also enjoyed the moment in the studio.

Former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop, ex-India coach Ravi Shastri and former England batting great Kevin Pietersen were in the commentary box the moment CSK won the match.

Just as Jadeja hit the winning boundary, Bishop was quick to remind the fans about the consistency with which the MS Dhoni-led side plays. Describing the winning moment, he said, “Never bet against MS Dhoni and CSK. The TATA IPL champions for 2023 are CSK.”

Shastri can be seen smiling at the winning shot, while Pietersen was too engrossed in the moment.

The victory over GT helped CSK to equal the Mumbai Indians’ record of five IPL titles. It was also CSK’s third IPL title in the last six seasons.

Wrestlers' Protest: Bajrang, Sakshi and Vinesh to immerse medals in Ganga, sit on fast unto death

India’s top wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Asian Games champion Vinesh Phogat, who are protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment have said that they will “immerse their medals” in the river Ganga in Haridwar at 6 PM on Tuesday.

The protesting wrestlers added that after immersing their medals they will sit on an indefinite hunger strike at India Gate in New Delhi.

“These medals are our lives, our souls. There would be no reason to live after throwing them in the Ganga today. So, we will stage a hunger strike until death at India Gate after that,” their statement read.

The statement from the wrestlers comes two days after they were detained by Delhi Police after a violent scuffle as they prepared to stage a protest outside the new Parliament building in New Delhi. Later, the police also dismantled the protest site of the wrestlers in Jantar Mantar where they have been agitating since 23 April demanding action against the WFI chief.

The police have also filed an FIR against the wrestlers on the charges of rioting.

Brij Bhushan has been accused of sexual harassment by seven wrestlers including a minor.

IPL 2023 Final: Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans remain unchanged in Ahmedabad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won the toss at the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) Final in Ahmedabad, and opted to field against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday. The title clash of the 16th season of IPL was postponed to a “reserve day” on Monday after heavy showers lashed at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Follow LIVE: IPL Final, CSK vs GT

Both teams went unchanged from their respective previous matches. CSK skipper MS Dhoni said that the decision to field first was with the rain forecast in mind, and added that having a full 20-over contest would serve justice to the tournament.

“We’ll bowl first with the rain forecast being around. Yesterday we were in the dressing room. As a cricketer you always want to play. It was the crowd that suffered the most. Hopefully we can entertain them,” Dhoni said at the toss.

“Pitch has been under cover for a long time, but throughout the tournament the pitch has behaved well over here. Quite happy it will be a 20-over game we’ll be playing. Serves justice to the tournament like this. Same team,” added the veteran, who has now led CSK to a record 10 IPL finals.

GT skipper Hardik Pandya said he would have opted to bowl as well.

“Would’ve bowled first as well, but my heart wanted to bat so I don’t mind losing the toss. We spoke that it is something out of our control (weather). Whichever team plays better will have their hands on the trophy. I like keeping the boys cool, and they repay me. It’s a flat track (On the pitch). Same team,” said Hardik.

While GT are aiming to secure their second IPL trophy in as many seasons, CSK will look to go level with Mumbai Indians by potentially clinching their fifth title.

Playing XI:

Gujarat Titans: Hardik Pandya(Captain), Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmad, Mohammed Shami

Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni(Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana

Fans who bought tickets for the IPL Final on 28 May will be allowed to enter the stadium with their existing physical tickets on 29 May (Monday).

16:31 (IST)

We are back for a re-run of the IPL 2023 final. The match was washed out on Sunday due to incessant rain in Ahmedabad but luckily we have a reserve day and both the players and fans would want to see a full game. There's prediction of some rain in the evening but let's hope it doesn't kill the game completely. The playing conditions for today are the same as yesterday. We will share more details soon. Stay tuned...

IPL Final 2023, CSK vs GT LIVE Score: With the final on Sunday being washed out due to rain, here we are on the reserve day (Monday) for the IPL final 2023 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Rain or no rain we will have our IPL 2023 champion today.

Not even a single ball was bowled on Sunday (28 May) as rain and thunderstorm lashed the Gujarat city and the IPL final for the first time in 16 editions was moved to the reserve day (29 May).

There is around 7% percent chance of rain at 7 PM IST in Ahmedabad, the time of toss. But in case rain interrupts the game once again, the cut-off time for a full game is 9.35 PM IST. After that, the match will last losing overs.

A five-over contest can be done if rain continues to play spoilsport but it has to start by 12.06 am on Tuesday (30 May).

If a match is not possible then a Super Over can be held and it can start as late as 12.50 am.

But even if that is not possible then Gujarat Titans will be declared IPL 2023 winners because they topped the points table. GT won 10 matches and accumulated 20 points.

CSK were second on the table with 17 points.

Now coming to the match. MS Dhoni’s CSK are aiming to equal Mumbai Indians’ record of five IPL titles, while Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat are aiming to become the first team in IPL history to win titles in both their first two seasons.

GT currently lead the head-to-head race 3-1 with two of the wins coming last season. This season, GT defeated CSK by 5 wickets in the IPL 2023 opener, while CSK had their revenge in Qualifier 1 with a 15-run victory that helped them to reach a record 10th IPL final.

Adding more intrigue to the contest is the possibility of Dhoni retiring from the IPL. There’s no confirmation on this but there are multiple reports that the 41-year-old is ready to hang his boots.

If that is the case, Dhoni would want to end his professional career with a bang. And that means Gujarat Titans need to be wary.

IPL Final 2023: Guidelines issued over physical tickets; how to gain entry into stadium on reserve day

Now that the IPL 2023 final has been rescheduled for Monday, fans must be wondering what happens to the tickets. Do they need to buy new tickets or the same old tickets will be valid and if so will there be any conditions attached? IPL has cleared the air on the questions.

IPL 2023: Full coverage | Points table | Schedule | Results | Orange Cap | Purple Cap

The tickets for the final will be valid on the reserve day Monday even the ones that have been torn. But the tickets must have all the important information intact. Those who’ve had their tickets torn must keep the pieces together and if the important details are available they will be allowed entry. Soft copies alone won’t suffice for entry.

Without these conditions fulfilled the spectators will be denied entry to the stadium.

Earlier on Sunday the summit clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans could not even start due to incessant rain and for the first time in the 16 years of IPL history, a final was rescheduled to a reserve day.

The final is set to start at 7:30 pm on Monday with toss at 7:00 pm.

However, if there is a repeat of what happened on Sunday, the table toppers Gujarat Titans will be declared winners, which will make the Hardik Panday-led side the first team to win a second consecutive title in its first two seasons.

IPL final: All scenarios if rain interrupts the reserve day

But, Chennai Super Kings perhaps have one more reason to not want this to happen in addition to the obvious wish for any team to at least get to fight before losing. This could be their skipper MS Dhoni’s last contest as there have been speculations of him calling it quits after this season.

And even Gujarat Titans would want to win the final rather than just being declared the winner due to some rules. Their captain Hardik Pandya is also looking for a full house on Monday to serve the home audience a hard-earned victory.

Watch: Football star Kylian Mbappe’s Pakistani lookalike stuns internet

Folk wisdom says doppelgangers are mysterious and exact duplicates of living individuals. On a planet with over seven billion people, a BBC report says, someone out there is an exact duplicate of you. Several claims of doppelgangers are probably cases of mistaken identity. However, such an explanation becomes increasingly difficult to accept when seen by someone who knows the real person first hand. And when the Internet approves, it becomes even more difficult to disagree.

Talking of which, a video of a man from Pakistan, appearing to be Mbappe has gone viral. The man who is seen attending a public event, exhibited much of a muchness to the French footballer. A user named @idcaleem shared the video via Instagram. The post was captioned, “Mbappe in Pakistan.”

Have a look at the video:

Comments on the post:

In a few weeks, the video garnered over 10 million views and more than 1 million likes on social media. Users were shocked to see the uncanny resemblance between the man and Mbappe. The comment section was filled with rib-tickling comments.

“Mbappe from Karachi,” jokingly wrote one user. “Mbape leaves PSG now he joins jiye Sindh,” said another.

A user hilariously commented, “Mbappe pro max,” while one added, “Mbappe in Pakistan 1st draft.”

The internet keeps coming up with lookalikes of celebrities. Actors like Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan among others have been pointed to have such.

Earlier this year, a video showing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s lookalike took the internet by storm. The post was captioned: “Arvind kejriwal selling chat in Gwalior.”

He was seen dressed in a clothing similar to what Kejriwal wore and was even sporting the politician’s signature glasses, cap, and sweater.

This popular notion of ‘lookalikes’ has gripped the minds for millennia and has served as the subject of one of the oldest works of literature. In literature, doppelgangers are often symbols of a character’s inner conflict or dual nature.

CSK's Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from IPL, title clash against GT to be his last

IPL 2023 final against Gujarat Titans will be Chennai Super Kings’ Ambati Rayudu’s last IPL match, the batter announced on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Rayudu took to Twitter hardly a couple of hours before the Sunday final to share the news.

“2 great teams Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings,204 matches,14 seasons,11 playoffs, 8 finals,5 trophies. Hopefully 6th tonight. It’s been quite a journey. I have decided that tonight’s final is going to be my last game in the Ipl” he tweeted.

Urgent meeting to decide Asia Cup venue to be held in 'next 7-10 days', says Jay Shah

An emergent meeting on the 2023 Asia Cup venue is likely to take place in the next “7-10 days”, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said.

The presidents of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are currently in Ahmedabad to witness the IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, and will be having a discussion on the sidelines in a bid to determine the Asia Cup hosts.

The BCCI SGM was held on 27 May, and Jay Shah, who is also the ACC president, said that there would be information on the Asia Cup after a meeting with Asia Cup members.

“The future of the Asia Cup 2023 will be decided once we have a meeting with the ACC members (Test playing nations) and the Associate nations,” said Shah.

“Emergent ACC meeting likely in next 7-10 days. In person or virtual but a meeting is likely to be called where views of other members of the ACC on Asia Cup will also be shared and discussed,” Shah added.

Pakistan hold the hosting rights for this year’s Asia Cup, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi has repeatedly stressed the fact that at least a few matches be held in Pakistan.

Sethi had suggested a “hybrid model” where India could play their Asia Cup matches at a neutral venue while other teams play in Pakistan.

The hybrid model would require financial and logistical planning, and would require the teams to travel a lot more.

It’s not that difficult to understand the feasibility. It’s an ODI match. Will start at 1:30 pm and end around 9:30 pm in the night and then teams will have to travel to another country. ACC members will talk and decide on the feasibility of that,” a senior official in the know of things said, as per the report.

IPL Final 2023 CSK vs GT LIVE Updates: Dhoni vs Hardik as Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans

16:41 (IST)

Records that can be made today...

CSK have four titles in their cupboard and a victory today will help the equal Mumbai Indians' record of five titles.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans are aiming to become the first franchise to win IPL titles in their first two seasons in the league.

Shubman Gill has already scored three centuries this season and can equal the IPL record for a season (4) with another on Sunday. Virat Kohli (2016) and Jos Buttler (2022) hold the record with four tons.

16:33 (IST)

IPL Final: Pitch report

We can expect a high-scoring game in Ahmedabad. In the Qualifier 2, Gujarat Titans scored 233 batting first with Shubman Gill making 129. The average first-innings score at the Narendra Modi Stadium is 193.

Five matches at Ahmedabad this season have been won by the team batting first.

16:25 (IST)

IPL final and closing ceremony...

Live streaming of the IPL final and the closing ceremony will be available on the JioCinema app and website, while the match will be broadcast on Star Sports channels.

16:15 (IST)

Let's talk about the closing ceremony...

DJ Nucleya and rapper King will be performing at 6 PM in the closing ceremony as announced by the BCCI.

In mid-innings break, rapper Divine and singer Jonita Gandhi are scheduled to perform.

There are many reports of a famous Bollywood star performing during the closing ceremony but so far there is no confirmation.

16:08 (IST)

Let's start with some information about the match. The match will start at 7.30 PM IST, with the toss taking place at 7 PM IST. Gujarat Titans are the defending champions and also have a 3-1 lead on Chennai Super Kings in the head-to-head stats.

GT however lost their last match against CSK by 15 runs in the Qualifier 1.

IPL Final 2023 CSK vs GT LIVE Score: The big day is here as Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans in the IPL final 2023. CSK are hoping to win a record-equalling 5th title while GT are aiming to win their second consecutive title which will also help them make IPL history. Before the grand finale, we will also have the closing ceremony where DJ Nucleya and rapper King are scheduled to perform from 6 PM IST. A lot is coming your way. Stay tuned...

IPL Final 2023 CSK vs GT LIVE Score: The grand finale of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is here! MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face off against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It seems like the defending champions have a slight edge going into the final as it is being played in their own backyard but the last time CSK came to Ahmedabad, the stands in the stadium witnessed a sea of yellow. Hence, it’s impossible to say which team will have the fans’ support during the IPL final 2023.

Talking about the fans, there will be some special events for them during the closing ceremony which will start at 6 PM IST. DJ Nucleya and rapper King will perform at the event while rapper Divine and singer Jonita Gandhi are scheduled to perform in the mid-innings break.

Coming to the match. Gujarat Titans have a 3-1 edge over Chennai Super Kings in the head-to-head corner and have been the best side in IPL 2023, having won 10 out of 14 league games and finishing on the top of the points table. They also dismantled Mumbai Indians (MI) by 62 runs in the Qualifier 2 to gain an entry into a second consecutive final in their first two seasons in the league — an IPL record.

But, GT’s only defeat to CSK came in the last between the two sides in Qualifier 1 when Dhoni and Co emerged winners by 15 runs. Earlier in the season, in fact, in the opener, GT had defeated CSK by five wickets.

Adding more intrigue to the contest is the fact that both the teams are based on similar philosophies, where the focus is on creating the best combination and then allowing them to perform to their best with the help of support and motivation. This philosophy has worked wonders for both the franchises.

CSK are in their 10th IPL final — the only IPL team to do so — and GT are always on the verge of becoming the first team to win two consecutive titles in their first two seasons.

Talking about their strengths. CSK relies heavily on opener Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad to get the runs. The duo has accumulated 775 runs together, While opener Shubman Gill has smashed 851 runs alone this season for GT. Gujarat also have Mohammed Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma in their ranks — the three highest wicket-takers this season.

In this context, Gujarat Titans do look a bit stronger than Chennai Super Kings but IPL has never conformed to such equations.

IPL final, CKS vs GT pitch report and weather prediction: The pitch in Ahmedabad is batting-friendly with the average first innings score being 193. The team batting first has won five matches here in IPL 2023.

The weather in Ahmedabad is expected to be cloudy on Sunday and while there is a 20% chance of rain, it shouldn’t be a big problem.

IPL final, CKS vs GT live streaming: The closing ceremony will start at 6 PM IST while the match will start at 7.30 PM, Both events will be live streamed on the JioCinema app and website and TV telecast will be available on Star Sports Network.

Watch: Wrestlers violently detained by security, protest site at Jantar Mantar cleared

The wrestlers’ protest at Jantar Mantar might have been brought to a forceful end by the Delhi Police on Sunday when Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik were detained amid violent scuffles. Delhi Police claimed the trio and rest of the supporters were violating law and order after they breached the security cordon while trying to move towards the new Parliament building for a ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’.

“They have been detained for violating law and order. We will take legal action after inquiry in due course of time,” said Dependra Pathak, Special CP, Law and Order.

Amid chaotic scenes at Jantar Mantar, wrestlers and police officers shoved and pushed each other when Vinesh Phogat and her cousin sister Sangeeta Phogat tried to go past the barricades.

Vinesh, two-time World Championships medallist, provided strong resistance and Sangeeta clung to her cousin sister while lying on the road as the struggle continued.

Sakshi Malik recorded the dramatic exchange between the security forces and the Phogat sisters. She tweeted it with the caption, “This is how our champions are being treated. The world is watching us!”

Right after, the wrestlers and supporters were pushed into buses and taken to an unknown location. The police then began clearing the protest site by removing the cots, mattresses, cooler fans and the erected tarpaulin ceiling.

With the wrestlers being taken away, Phogat sarcastically claimed, “naya desh mubarak ho (congratulations on new India!)” in a dig at the government’s slogan amid inauguration of a new Parliament building.

The wrestlers had resumed their agitation against Wresting Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on 23 April, demanding his arrest. The wrestlers have accused Brij Bhushan of sexually harassing several women grapplers.

The Delhi Police had heightened security at Jantar Mantar, which is almost two kilometres from the new Parliament site. Thousands of police personnel were deployed and multiple layers of barricades were in place in Lutyens Delhi.

The wrestlers had announced they would go ahead with the Mahapanchayat at any cost. Police had made it clear on Sunday morning that no protester will be allowed to move towards Parliament since they had not been granted permission for the ‘Mahapanchayat’ and the wrestlers should not be involved in any “anti-national activity”.

Farmers from neighbouring states were also prevented from breaching state borders. Additionally, some JNU students claimed they were denied access to Jantar Mantar as well.
